Getting Started

How do I get access to Navigar?

Navigar is currently available only to members of the IT Group. If you are an IT Group member, you can create your Navigar account and get immediate access.

Why do I have to use a personal email address to access Navigar?

There are a lot of good reasons for your training information to be linked to a non-work email:

  • It ensures that you will continue to have access to Navigar, even if you change jobs/email address. 
  • Some training plans can only be linked to one email account, so it allows your employer to provide you training through your work email and allow your personal training history to remain  intact and separate from any work plans.

If you don’t want to use a personal email address, you can request a PIPSC email or create a new email address dedicated to training, e.g My_IT_Training@gmail.com.

I have already activated Navigar using a work email. When I make the change to a personal email, can I still access Skillsoft (Percipio) and goFLUENT?

Yes, you can still access those training platforms with the original email you used when you first created your account. You can also access their account settings to change your email address to match the one on your Navigar account.

Can I change my email address in my Navigar account?

Yes. Just let us know the email address that you’d like to use and we’ll make the change for you.

Keep in mind that we need a non-work email address. If you don’t want to use a personal email address, you can request a PIPSC email or create a new email address dedicated to training e.g My_IT_Training2025@gmail.com.

What if I don’t see my job title in the list?

We have thousands of job titles in our database, but we don’t have every job title. Use the job title description that best matches yours and then edit your skill levels as needed to get the most relevant recommendations. Then let us know the missing job title and we’ll work on adding it to our list.

What if the future career I want isn’t listed?

We have thousands of careers in our database but we don’t have every career. Use the career description that best matches the one you’re interested in to ensure you’re getting the most relevant training recommendations. Then let us know the missing career title and we’ll work on adding it to our list.

What if I’m interested in more than one career?

You can bookmark more than one career. Just click on the flag icon in the corner of each career information box to save it to your list.

What if I’m unsure or want to change my future career choice?

You can easily change careers or bookmark as many careers as you like to review the skills and training for each.

Just click on the flag icon in the corner of each career information box to save it.

Can I use Navigar even if I don’t register for any training?

Yes, Navigar is a career planning tool that you can use to do several things, such as:

  • Explore and discover career options relevant to your current skill sets.
  • Learn about different skill sets and how to strengthen a specific skill.
  • Learn about the future of work and how to prepare for coming changes.
  • Identify the skills and gaps between where you are in your career today and where you want to go next.
  • Know what training will help you close any skill gaps on your identified career path.
  • Prepare a skills development plan that can be shared with your employer.

Making Changes in Navigar

How can I change my current job title?

From the Home page, select the pencil icon next to your current job title. The Update Current Job window will open and you can use the dropdown menus to quickly update your current role. This will also update your skills profile and your Learning Plan.

What if I want to change my expertise level in a skill?

You can edit your skill level when you’re creating your profile just after you enter your job title.

You can also update your skill level any time:

  1. Select the ‘Update Skill Profile’ button from the Home page to be taken to your Skills Profile.
  2. Select the dropdown menu under each skill group to find the skill that you want to edit.
  3. Select the pencil icon and then ‘Update My Skill Level.'
  4. In the pop-up window, select your new skill level.
  5. Select 'Update' and then 'Update Skill Level' to confirm your choice.

You’ll see your new skill level when the page reloads. 

Your Learning Plan will be automatically updated as well.

How can I change my target career choice?

You can scroll down the home page to review your career recommendations at any time or select a whole new career.

From the ‘Home’ page, select the pencil icon next to your ‘Current Target Career’.

Navigar will show you careers based on your current job title. You can also scroll down to search for a career that you’re interested in.

Your Learning Plan will be automatically updated to reflect any changes.

I completed a course with a training partner but it’s still showing as in progress in my profile.

We haven’t built that connection to our learning providers yet.

To mark a course as completed:

  1. Select ‘My Training Plan’ from the top menu.
  2. Navigate to the course that you want to update.
  3. Select 'Completed' from the dropdown window.

Your changes are automatically saved. You’ll see your updated progress when you return to the ‘My Training Plan’ page.

About Training

What if I already have completed training that I want to add to my Learning Plan in Navigar?

If it’s one of the courses that Navigar is recommending for you, you can select it in your Learning Plan and mark it as ‘Completed’.

If it’s not on your list or it’s from an organization that we don’t work with:

  1. Select 'Training' from the top navigation.
  2. Select 'My Training History' from the dropdown menu.
  3. Select ‘Add Training Record’.
  4. Enter the details of the training in the pop-up window.

Navigar will add this course  to your list of completed training.

How do I access the training courses?

You can access all of the training from our partners through Navigar.   

For Skillsoft (Percipio) and CSPS, your training is in your Learning Plan which is always available from the top navigation bar.  

For Pluralsight and goFLUENT:

  1. Click on ‘Training’ in the top navigation.
  2. Select 'All Training’ from the dropdown menu.
  3. Scroll down and click on the partner logo.

You can also access your training by logging in to partner websites with your Navigar ID. 

Pluralsight: Select ‘Sign In’ and ‘Skills’ 

Skillsoft (Percipio): Make sure that 'I get training through my company' is selected and enter 'Navigar' as the site name.

How are my courses tracked?

You can access all of the training from our partners through Navigar.   

For Skillsoft (Percipio) and CSPS, your training is in your Learning Plan which is always available from the top navigation bar.  

When you register for a course in Navigar, that course is added to your learning profile.

To edit the status of a course, including completion: 

  1. Select ‘My Training Plan’ from the top menu.
  2. Navigate to the course that you want to update.
  3. Select the status that you want to apply from the dropdown window.

Your changes are automatically saved. You’ll see your updated progress when you return to the My Training Plan page.

Why did I get a notice that my course is expiring?

Our learning partners always want to keep their content up-to-date so they regularly update existing content. Though, they always provide you with enough notice to complete the course. After content is retired, you can no longer access it, but the record of your activity with that content will still appear on your Learning Activity page.

If you’ve completed the training, remember to manually update your Training Plan so that it’s captured in Navigar as well.

What is a pivot job?

A pivot job is one where your current skills are easily transferable.

How do I find pivot jobs?

To find a pivot job, just review the recommended courses in your suggested careers.

We don’t always find pivot jobs, but when we do, they can be an interesting option for you.

What is Pluralsight?

Pluralsight is laser focused on IT training, accelerating the skills and capabilities of today’s tech workforce in areas crucial to innovation including artificial intelligence, cloud computing, cybersecurity, software development, and machine learning.

Through Navigar you have access to their catalogue of courses, industry-leading skill assessments, and hands-on and immersive learning experiences.

What if I want to move my Training History from another Pluralsight account?

Pluralsight advises not to transfer history between plans (active or inactive) to keep the integrity of data intact and to maintain a separation between personal and business data.

If you still want to transfer history from one account to another, you can reach their support team at support@pluralsight.com.

Can I use some of the Project Management courses to gain PDUs for PMI to keep my PMP certification active?

Yes. Pluralsight has information on this here.

Why does my name in Pluralsight not appear the way I have provided it to PIPSC?

Pluralsight has limitations on what characters it can accept via their API, including accents and parentheses. To support this, we’ve had to modify how your name appears in your Navigar account.

We always want to be respectful of preferences.

You can edit your name directly in your Pluralsight account and, if you would like your name corrected in Navigar, please just let us know and we will take care of that for you.

Skillsoft (Percipio)

What is Skillsoft (Percipio)?

Percipio is the name of Skillsoft’s learning platform.

Skillsoft works with Navigar to match your current and desired skill levels to their catalogue of over 40,000 videos, books, audiobooks, practice labs, coding sandboxes, live events, tech bootcamps, and instructor-led courses.

Skillsoft’s AI-powered coach CAISY takes your development to a new level, creating a fully interactive space for practicing challenging work-related conversations with relevant scenarios for new managers, tech leaders, and Agile teams among many others. You can think on your feet in a safe environment with personalized feedback from your AI coach.

You’ll build business and tech skills through courses, guidance, tools, and hands-on practice. Along the way, assessments and practice labs let you measure your progress.

goFLUENT

What is goFLUENT?

Skillsoft’s partner goFLUENT offers on-demand training in 12 languages including our two official ones.

GoFLUENT uses the European Common Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) which uses European French, with words like ‘pull’ instead of ‘chandail en coton ouaté’ for a sweatshirt. Though it’s not an exact match to the Government of Canada’s language rating system, it will still help you raise your second official language qualifications and proficiency levels.

Can I take any language training in goFLUENT?

Yes. You have access to every course that our training partners have available for you. You can log in to view all of goFLUENT’s 12 language courses through their website.

CSPS

What is the Canada School of Public Service?

The Canada School of Public Service is the main educational institution for the Government of Canada, leading the government’s learning with a common, standardized curriculum that supports public servants through key career transitions.

The curriculum is very specific and delivers training on skills and mindsets that are applicable in any modern organisation.

How can I contact the Canada School of Public Service?

For any connectivity, enrollment, or access-related questions your best resource is their Client Contact Center (CCC). They are equipped to handle these kinds of issues effectively.

Doing Training at Work

Can I do this training during my work day?

This is something you’ll have to work out with your manager. But Navigar can help.

You can print off your Learning Plan to show a clear and well-defined path to success. On your My Learning page, just click on ‘Export your learning plan (PDF)’.

How do I get approval from my manager?

Your department will have protocols in place to submit a request for training but Navigar can help.

What if my manager won’t let me do this training during my work day?

If your manager won’t let you work on this training during work hours, we want to know.

And not just the Navigar ‘we’. Folks who want to do something about this also want to know.

Just let us know through our support form. We can’t promise anything for your individual case, but collectively we’ll be making sure that this gets attention.

Do I still have to take my departmental training?

Yes. Navigar is intended to supplement your career development with its analysis and extensive course list. It doesn’t replace or supersede any departmental training obligations.

What can I do with my Navigar learning plan?

Your Navigar learning plan is useful in several ways, including:

  • Showing gaps between the skills you have the skills you’ll need.

  • Identifying the training and courses that can close the gaps.

  • Providing clarity about what steps to take to get from where you are in your career to where you want to be.

  • Sharing it with your employer to have focused and productive conversations about your career development.

Can a supervisor or manager access Navigar to see what training their staff have been working on?

Managers can not access member training information.

If you want to share your training progress with your manager, you can print off your Learning Plan to show a clear and well-defined path to success.

On your My Learning page, just click on ‘Export your learning plan (PDF)’.
